On Gratitude
Many of our clients are currently in performance review season or gearing up for it. In our coaching sessions, much discussion has been given to providing hard feedback or giving constructive criticism.
But what about gratitude? When was the last time you said Thank You to your team? More so, when was the last time you took an inventory of things in your life you were grateful for?
For some, this practice is easily and authentically employed in day-to-day transactions. It is meaningful, heartfelt, and appropriately shared and reflected upon. For others, this may come less frequently. The missed opportunity is often unintentional - we’re focused on the rapidly moving decisions that need to be made, the lengthy to-do list and gratitude falls last, as the next rock to move is right in front of us.
Whew.
Yet the research is overwhelming - gratitude matters. It matters to our staff, our team, and our colleagues. More so, our own reflective gratitude practice matters immensely. The resources provided above highlight the multitude of benefits to us emotionally, spiritually, and physically. Research shows it can reduce inflammation, increase feel-good neurotransmitters, and provide overall better physical and mental health. Sharing genuine gratitude with your staff can also have a positive effect. You’d be surprised how often we hear from people in coaching: “A simple thank you or acknowledgment from my boss/organization would go a long way!”
In this season of gratitude - consider ways you may bolster your practice internally and externally.
